Mark Asset as Decommissioned

Decommissioning Assets on the Platform

The Platform allows you to efficiently mark assets as Decommissioned. This action is particularly useful for resolving any issues attached to a host that is no longer in use or part of your active digital environment. The Platform ensures you are informed of the affected issues before the final confirmation of decommissioning.

Steps to Decommission an Asset:

  1. Access Issues Interface:

    • Navigate to the Issues interface, located under Results in the menu.

  2. Select the Associated Issue:

    • Identify and select an issue linked to the asset you intend to decommission.

  3. Access Asset Options:

    • Under Affected Hosts, click the ‘three dots’ button on the right-hand side.

  4. Initiate Decommissioning:

    • Choose ‘Decommission…’ from the dropdown menu.

  5. Provide Details:

    • Enter a reason for decommissioning in the comment box.

    • Optionally, notify colleagues or the Project Lead and add attachments.

  6. Finalize Decommissioning:

    • Click ‘Decommission Asset’ to complete the process.

Considerations for Decommissioning:

  • Issue Resolution: Decommissioning an asset automatically resolves any linked issues.

  • Notification: The Platform alerts you about the specific issues that will be affected by this action.

  • Record Keeping: Decommissioning includes an option to document the reason, aiding in maintaining accurate records and audit trails.

By following these steps, you can effectively manage your asset lifecycle on the Platform, ensuring that assets no longer in use are appropriately marked and their related issues are resolved.

Assets that are marked as decommissioned in the platform will not be included within the platform metrics and can still be found and reviewed by using the filters available within the Assets page.

The platform does not take into account the scope of a clients testing programme. Meaning that if these decommissioned assets are still part of the importing datasets, the platform will treat them as new assets. In these cases these assets should be removed from testing scopes or subsequently decommissioned and removed from networks as is normal practice.
