Efficiently Managing Digital Assets with Auto Merge Setting on the Platform

The Platform has introduced an Auto-Merge feature in the assets section, designed to streamline the management of your digital estate. This feature allows for the automatic merging of assets based on specific criteria such as IP addresses or hostnames, simplifying asset organization and tracking.

Applying Global Auto Merge Setting:

  1. Accessing Merge Settings:

    • Within the Assets page, locate and select the ‘Merge Settings’ button on the right-hand side.

  2. Setting Preferences:

    • Choose from the following options to configure your auto-merge preferences:

      • Based on Both Hostname and IP Address:

        • This default setting is ideal for environments requiring a match in both IP address and hostname for auto-merging. The Platform will merge an asset only if it finds a corresponding IP address and hostname in the existing asset inventory.

      • Based on Hostname:

        • Best suited for environments with static hostnames but dynamic IP addressing. By focusing on hostnames, the Platform will overlook varying IP addresses, correlating tests and issues based on asset hostnames.

      • Based on IP Address:

        • Optimal for setups with static IP addressing but inconsistent or non-informative hostnames. This setting allows the Platform to ignore hostname differences, aligning tests and issues based on IP addresses.

Applying Asset Group Merge Setting:

Merge settings can also be applied to individual asset groups within the platform. Please see https://rootshellsecurity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PK/pages/1353711627for further details on how to create a group and assign the merge setting.

Streamlining Asset Management:

By utilizing the Auto Merge feature, users can significantly enhance the efficiency of managing their digital estate, ensuring that assets are automatically organized and correlated based on the most relevant and stable identifiers.
